College football: Cincinnati ends losing streak against Miami, 34-23

Hayden Moore threw two touchdown passes and ran for an additional score as part of his starting debut, and Cincinnati's struggling defense held on for the 34-23 victory over visiting Miami on Thursday night to get rid of the Hurricanes' 10-game winning streak above the Bearcats.

The redshirt freshman followed up the very best passing game in Cincinnati history that has a solid performance. The Bearcats (3-2) surged ahead 14-3 and overcame a scoreless third quarter behind Moore, who completed 22 of 33 passes for 279 yards through an interception.

Moore filled in with Gunner Kiel sidelined with a neck injury suffered after a 53-46 loss at Memphis every week earlier. Moore took over in that game and threw to get a school-record 557 yards with four touchdowns and a couple of interceptions in a mere three quarters.

Miami (3-1) was coming off a 36-33 wow Nebraska that featured five field goals by Michael Badgley. He made three more Thursday but missed from 51 and 53 yards as being the Hurricanes repeatedly didn't reach the end zone.

Game on ... for now

Clemson athletic department officials say things are a still on diary for Saturday's game between No. 6 Notre Dame as well as the 12th-ranked Tigers, but they are keeping an in depth watch on Hurricane Joaquin within the Atlantic Ocean.

Clemson said in the statement Thursday that university officials have been around in contact with the National Weather Service plus the Atlantic Coast Conference. At the moment, things are scheduled as planned.

Officials said inside statement, "We mean to continue on that path unless authorities advise us otherwise." Should that occur, the athletic department will immediately inform the population.

Forecasts require up to an inch of rain on Saturday night. Kickoff is agenda for 8 p.m. EDT. Saturday's Maryland-Michigan game was been rescheduled to noon EDT from 8 p.m.

Texas Christian senior defensive end Mike Tuaua and freshman receiver Andre Petties-Wilson are already reinstated and eligible to play against Texas on Saturday. The players were arrested a couple weeks ago on charges of robbery-bodily injury after another TCU student told Fort Worth police investigators the players stole a clear case of beer while attacking him with the exceptional friends. The players missed the final three games as soon as the Sept. 4 incident. Coach Gary Patterson said the squad had "gone from the judicial process," although a Fort Worth police spokesman said true hasn't been given to Tarrant County prosecutors.

Southern's Devon Gales is good spirits despite a paralyzing neck injury, someone of the family said Thursday. Gales broke his sixth cervical vertebra while blocking with a kickoff return in Saturday's game at Georgia. Though his body motion is limited mostly to wrists, shoulders and biceps, Gales is telling members of the family and friends he hopes to produce a full recovery. Spinal cord specialist Brock Bowman, Gales' attending physician with the Shepherd Center, expects he will be hospitalized at the least eight weeks.
