Wales have decided for another huge physical confrontation if they meet Fiji within their third Rugby World Cup Pool A match, forwards coach Robin McBryde said on Wednesday.
The Welsh will be in buoyant mood following their 28-25 make an impression on England but know their depleted and battered team must front up again in Cardiff on Thursday against a Fiji side with not even attempt to lose.
"They really are a very physical team," McBryde told a news conference. "They have big runners with gas and physicality.
"We know it can be a very physical battle and they also won't hold anything back against us. It's their last possibility of getting a big scalp."
Wales fought back in beat England by playing smart rugby inside closing stages from the match.
"The most a valuable thing for me to be a coach was our problem-solving within the pitch," McBryde said.
"The replacements really did their job, brought a great deal of accuracy. We finished strongly and turned things round inside scrum." Preparations are actually limited due to turnaround and Wales coach Warren Gatland hinted that players who wouldn't show enough intensity could well be dropped for any game through which victory would put both of them within touching distance from the last eight.
"There's somewhat of a balance in terms of how much work we could do relating to the games," McBryde said. "But the intensity in training was there yesterday. Warren's words gave the members all the motivation they needed and that we have the right mind-set." The Welsh squad received a trip from former world boxing champion Joe Calzaghe at their training base on Tuesday evening. - Agencies
"It was great for the boys approach Joe," McBryde said.
"He has stayed loyal to his roots. He thrived on being the underdog. It was great to possess a bit of rid of rugby and speak with one in the greatest boxers inside world."
Fiji beat Wales with the 2007 World Cup, their only wow the Welsh in 10 meetings, but McBryde said the mentality within the side now was different.
"It could be the resolve we have now, the consistency inside squad along with the resilience that is inside the team," he was quoted saying.
"The players are actually there before."
The diminutive Matthew Morgan will become at fullback against Fiji following injuries to Leigh Halfpenny and Liam Williams and McBryde expects him to excite the property fans.
"Matthew's strengths are evident for those to see," he explained.
"He's as being a Welsh player of old, swinging the hips and producing that little dose of magic. I think the bunch will enjoy seeing as."
