Struggling local rivals face another tough EPL weekend

London: The two biggest clubs within the passionate football region of north-east England, Newcastle United and Sunderland, both face another daunting task on Saturday because they seek a primary win of year.

It would be the third year running that Sunderland have won none in their first six games and also the second in succession for his or her neighbours.

Both also went of the League Cup that has a home defeat in midweek, which had been Newcastle`s fourth successive loss and Sunderland`s third.

Now Dick Advocaat`s Sunderland team must play away to Manchester United, whorrrre second inside the table, while Newcastle match the champions Chelsea.

Both managers repeated a familiar refrain at their news conferences on Friday, with Steve McClaren, who took at Newcastle inside the close-season, emphasising the phrase "change" again.

"We are coping with change, and change is painful, tough and hard," he explained.

"We are changing a whole lot -- philosophy, culture, standards, training, the design and style of play to get more possession-based. Some people adapt quickly and several don`t but it`s necessary.

"Why am i wanting change? Because we`ve won five games beyond 32.

"I`ve stated it won`t the simple. It won`t take place in three months.

"But if we get it right, it will likely be good."

The club`s managing director Lee Charnley has sent an e-mail to fans, apologising for "a very disappointing start" and accepting collective responsibility.

"We shouldn't panic or make rash decisions," he wrote.

Sunderland`s Advocaat again stressed value of tightening up a defence which includes conceded 20 goals in eight league and cup games, despite buying two new centre backs in Younes Kaboul from Tottenham and Sebastian Coates from Liverpool.

"It will be the manner we offer the goals away that would be the problem," the manager told BBC Newcastle.

Advocaat says the run of eight games third , weekend’s clash at Old Trafford is going to be critical.

One small consolation is he says he will have lost only 1 of nine direct meetings with fellow Dutchman and United manager Louis van Gaal.

Less encouraging is former England striker Jermain Defoe is doubtful for your game that has a hamstring strain.
